GICS works to improve cancer care systems and services in the Grampians region. We act as a catalyst for and driver of change in partnership with the community, public and private health services providers.

We will achieve our mission by:

  • Understanding the needs of people affected by cancer

  • Building and supporting collaboration between health professionals, health services and consumers

  • Driving quality improvement in cancer care

  • Supporting development of the cancer workforce

  • Facilitating system wide engagement in cancer research.

 

Strategic goals for the Grampians region

  • Primary Prevention: Promote cancer prevention messages

  • Screening & Early Detection: Grampians residents know their risk of cancer and have cancers detected earlier

  • Treatment: Grampians residents with cancer have timely access to optimal treatment

  • Wellbeing & Support: Grampians residents with cancer and their families live well

  • Research: Grampians region has a strong and integrated research system.

Our Region

Our region stretches from the South Australian border in the west to Bacchus Marsh in the east and from Edenhope to Hopetoun in the north. The area covers almost 50,000 square kilometres and a population of nearly 220,000 people.

Governance

Governance

The GICS Governance Group comprises of people affected by cancer, health professionals, health service administrators and the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services.

The role of the GICS Governance Group is to provide leadership, vision and overall accountability for GICS, ensuring an integrated and collaborative approach to consistent high-quality cancer care in Victoria

The Governance Group maintains a sustainable model for collaboration of cancer service providers in our region.
