Improve wellbeing and support for people affected by cancer
The Victorian Cancer Plan prioritises ‘holistic recovery and wellbeing of cancer consumers and those involved in their care – whether that be survivorship programs, mental health services or supportive care’.
Pillar 1 of the Victorian Cancer Plan 2024–2028 (p25 of the PDF) focuses on empowering ‘consumers’ (people affected by cancer, and their carers) to be active partners in their health and wellbeing.
The VICS are supporting health service providers across Victoria to improve wellbeing and support for patients and their carers, with initiatives to:
- Build on opportunities to improve supportive care access across the patient’s cancer journey
- Improve access to cancer survivorship care, and strengthen embedding models of care – including a statewide cancer survivorship care program
- Improve timely and equitable access to specialist palliative care.
